The Backstory Shorts is a series of short posts about things I have experienced in Warcraft that don't warrant a full post but are too numerous to make a compilation post on and something I started up in 2010 and then neglected. Way to go!! 

Now I'm reviving this feature and along with this 3 installment I thought I'd share the previous 2 posts to give a refresher! The first was titled Introducing.... which covers my top 3 mobs I enjoy killing because of the hatred I have built up for them over the years and the second was about me completing the grind for my Winterspring Frostsaber, done the old way without the fancy schmancy easy mode daily quest! The Sixth Meme

Seems I have been tagged by Malevica of  Type "H" For Heals to partake in the “Sixth Meme”, started by Gnomeaggedon which challenges WoW bloggers to:

Macros, I love em! They are great to enable many "slash commands" into a single button click. I won't go into the basics of what they are are or how to make them (click here for a beginner's guide) but they do come in many levels of complexity.

There are two limits Blizzard have on macros. The first is that macros cannot be more than 255 character long, which while annoying is an anti-botting mechanism of which I approve. The second is you are limited to 18 macros per character and while you can extend this with the use of the account wide General Macros, it  is still annoying for a raving altaholic like myself.

Deathy is dead!

I'm glad to report that on February 9th, 2012 myself and 9 friends from Exhumed successfully slaughtered Deathwing and therefore saved the citizens of Azeroth from their impending doom. But seriously, I was honoured to be part of the guild's first kill and as much as my ego would like to think they couldn't have done it without me they most definitely could have although I'm glad they did let me tag along despite my lowly trialist rank in the guild.

A Break in the Mists: Alert the Press!

Since the announcement of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria at BlizzCon 2011, we’ve been hard at work on all of the new game features, environments, dungeons, and other content that awaits adventurers. Today, we’re inviting members of the press worldwide to get an updated sneak peek and some hands-on time with the latest version of World of Warcraft’s fourth expansion at an event taking place March 13 - 15.

The above announcements of no Blizzcon 2012 and the press event are hardly breaking news, and as I was 99.9999999% not going anyway I really didn't care much at the time. But then I after listening to debates on podcasts and reading some blogs I got thinking of what this could mean for the future of the World of Warcraft.

A few weeks back I made a tough decision, I love the guys and girls at Saturday Knight Fever, they rock they really do. But sometimes you have to be selfish and after a lot of  soul searching and attempts to prevent it happening I decided that I had to leave them behind. The options were limited, I love WoW for 2 reasons, the friendships I have built and the challenge of raiding and losing 50% of the reason I play simply means I don't enjoy playing the game and that meant leaving WoW or leaving SKF. Having tried out SWTOR and not feeling  that it was along term WoW beater yet I decided to change guilds.

Cataclysm at launch had 3 raids in Tier 11, Blackwing Descent had 6 bosses, Bastion of Twilight had 4 and Throne of the Four Winds 2 bosses all had solid content that was hard enough for organised raiding groups and well formed pugs, but go in under-geared and without strategy and you didn't get far. We had variety, we had a change of scenery if we chose to do so. We even had the loot pinata in Baradin Hold. best of all we had the promise that we would get more smaller raids in more frequent patches. 4.1 would give us the Abyssal Maw, 4.2  Firelands  and 4.3 Dragon Soul.

I've been struggling with my passion for raids for a while now. A lot of this was because my new job meant I couldn't raid as much as I wanted to and that didn't help me feeling detached from the latter half of the Firelands content. This was because my friends in Saturday Knight Fever weren't raiding at the cutting edge and as Firelands was great content and I was happy with that as we were progressing through at our pace.

2 weeks into 2012 and it is high time I set myself some goals for coming year. I already have at least 1 character of each class at max level, each profession maxed out and gear levels are high enough on all characters on my home server to enter the raid finder so the goals for the coming year are going to be no push overs.

A bit of a cheat this post as I'm simply reproducing one of my static pages I have just updated, but I think this topic actually deserves special attention.

Power Auras Classic is one of my favourite add ons as it replaces many addons that I used in the past as it allows me to create visual and ausio alerts that I design and position for procs like "clear casting", trinket procs, buffs/debuffs, cooldowns and even equipped items (I have been known to go into battle with my Chef's Hat equipped!

Its been a hard few weeks in the world of raiding, seeing posts from fellow priests like Derevka and Malevica posting guides on healing heroic Dragon Soul bosses fills me with a little bit of envy as my guild are currently struggling with the holiday boss and a few interlopers who have deserted WoW for a month until their free SW:TOR month ends, keeping us at 4/8 on normal modes. But that is the price I am willing to pay for being in a small social guild with friends and having fun rather than having WoW feeling like work.

That said if you're needing a new home for 2012 and can tank, heal or DPS a bit, can raid 2 to 3 times a week (10 man raids) and are willing to join me on Shadowsong EU visit the Saturday Knight Fever website and post an application. more »
