WoW Ironman: Ironiana <Is Doing It Wrong>

Ironiana @ WildhammerEU @ 25
Just a quick update on my WoW Ironman, take 3 progress. Finally hit level 25 and have also succumbed to the no guild thing because I was getting spammed to hell by people recruiting for their guild or wanting a guild charter signed. I put out a call to my realiID friends and one rose to the challenge and as he has a few accounts did much of the hard work by adding 3 of the 5 signature, thank you Tom!

The Alt Factory: Valdarian

Primary role: Damage dealer
Birth Date: September 3rd 2006

Whilst not the first alt I ever rolled my mage is the oldest one still hanging around on Shadowsong EU. Valdarian began life as a female human mage named Magyxx and was part of an army created to have some auction house fun however I stupidly named my alts with a theme based around their class and the "yxx" suffix I invented when naming Evlyxx so it was bloody obvious the mass postings on the auction house was 1 person! But I digress....

Magyxx eventually became Eyesical and after finally becoming bored with stupid names and deciding I wanted my mage to look like Shade of Aran, led to the birth of Valdaran so named after a wikipedia search for aran led me here. I recently evicted him to a dofferent server to level a NElf mage for the guild achievement but a few days ago decided I wanted the old guy back so deleted my newly rolled 85 Nelf mage and brought the old fella back home. Sadly I had to change name when I put him on his holiday server and simply added an "i" to the name because it was close enough and sounded good too.

Vald, as he is often referred to, has led a mixed life, starting as a herb/ore farmer and ending up as my goto DPS raider back in Wrath until I got bored playing arcane mage and switched over to Strigimaga, his raiding in Cataclysm has been limited to 2 Magmaw kills but soon that will improve with some LFR action.

Newsflash: Pandacraft Beta

A few friends now have their beta keys. Looks good by all accounts and if previous betas are an indication looks like we could have a late Summer/early autumn release.

A quote stolen from Heldy (an SKF guildie)
- awesome new character creation screens
- nice animations on monk class
- skills are all aggregated now in the spellbook now which make them a bit confusing to retrieve (sorted between passive and active skills) but plenty of new stuff, changed effects etc.
- new cool animations, glyphs and spells overall
- new profession level is "zen master"
- Pandaria is not yet open :-( (apart from 1-10 zone), new dungeons are not yet open :-( so can't comment on that...
- leveled a human monk and liked the feel of the abilities very much.

Azerothian Shortcuts

Mages are great they have those lovely portals to all the major cities and we're all dead jealous, druids and death knights get a taste too with their class portals to Moonglade and Ebon Hold respectively. But the rest of us just have to rely on our mounts, flight masters and boats or zeppelins (depending on our faction) or do we?

WoW Ironman Challnge Fail 2

Well I learned another valuable lesson today about patience and over confidence.

My 2nd attempt at the WoW Ironman challenge ended in tears because I was an impatient ass. well on my way to level 24 a bag full of completed quests and needing to get off to work in 10 minutes I decided to grab the item for the last incomplete quest in my log. All that stood between me and success was a few worgen 2 levels below me in Brightwood Grove

WoW Ironman Challenge

WoW Ironman "rules"
After having the gauntlet of WoW Ironman thrown down by Branchy, a druid from Saturday Knight Fever and reading the rules (see above), I decided to accept the challenge. The idea of leveling up doing it wrong appealed because with modern talents, heirlooms and reduced XP requirements leveling now is a face-roll and following the "rules" will actually make leveling a challenge, a very BIG challenge!

The Backstory Shorts: I Remember When...

The Backstory Shorts is a series of short posts about things I have experienced in Warcraft that don't warrant a full post but are too numerous to make a compilation post on and something I started up in 2010 and then neglected. Way to go!!

Now I'm reviving this feature and along with this 3 installment I thought I'd share the previous 2 posts to give a refresher! The first was titled Introducing.... which covers my top 3 mobs I enjoy killing because of the hatred I have built up for them over the years and the second was about me completing the grind for my Winterspring Frostsaber, done the old way without the fancy schmancy easy mode daily quest! Damn you Blizzard!

The Sixth Meme

The Sixth Meme
Seems I have been tagged by Malevica of  Type "H" For Heals to partake in the “Sixth Meme”, started by Gnomeaggedon which challenges WoW bloggers to:
  • Go into your image folder
  • Open the sixth sub-folder and choose the sixth image.
  • Publish the image! (and a few words wouldn’t hurt, though I dare say I couln’t stop a blogger from adding a few words of their own).
  • Challenge six new bloggers.
  • Link to them.

Priesting 101: Macros

Macros, I love em! They are great to enable many "slash commands" into a single button click. I won't go into the basics of what they are are or how to make them (click here for a beginner's guide) but they do come in many levels of complexity.

There are two limits Blizzard have on macros. The first is that macros cannot be more than 255 character long, which while annoying is an anti-botting mechanism of which I approve. The second is you are limited to 18 macros per character and while you can extend this with the use of the account wide General Macros, it  is still annoying for a raving altaholic like myself.

Deadwing

Deathy is dead!
(screenshot courtesy of Exhumed)
I'm glad to report that on February 9th, 2012 myself and 9 friends from Exhumed successfully slaughtered Deathwing and therefore saved the citizens of Azeroth from their impending doom. But seriously, I was honoured to be part of the guild's first kill and as much as my ego would like to think they couldn't have done it without me they most definitely could have although I'm glad they did let me tag along despite my lowly trialist rank in the guild.

World of Pandacraft: Is this the end?

No BlizzCon in 2012.
In light of our jam-packed schedule, we've decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.

A Break in the Mists: Alert the Press!

Since the announcement of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria at BlizzCon 2011, we’ve been hard at work on all of the new game features, environments, dungeons, and other content that awaits adventurers. Today, we’re inviting members of the press worldwide to get an updated sneak peek and some hands-on time with the latest version of World of Warcraft’s fourth expansion at an event taking place March 13 - 15.

If you want to know more about what lies hidden within the mists of Pandaria, wait for the season’s end….

The above announcements of no Blizzcon 2012 and the press event are hardly breaking news, and as I was 99.9999999% not going anyway I really didn't care much at the time. But then I after listening to debates on podcasts and reading some blogs I got thinking of what this could mean for the future of the World of Warcraft.

Switching Guilds

A few weeks back I made a tough decision, I love the guys and girls at Saturday Knight Fever, they rock they really do. But sometimes you have to be selfish and after a lot of  soul searching and attempts to prevent it happening I decided that I had to leave them behind. The options were limited, I love WoW for 2 reasons, the friendships I have built and the challenge of raiding and losing 50% of the reason I play simply means I don't enjoy playing the game and that meant leaving WoW or leaving SKF. Having tried out SWTOR and not feeling  that it was along term WoW beater yet I decided to change guilds.

About the Author

By day I'm an IT Server analyst for a major telecoms compnay in the UK and I've been playing World of Warcraft since November 2005 when a pair of colleagues bullied me into playing! I have evolved into a raider (summer 2006), an auction house wheeler dealer (2007), a guild officer (2007), an altoholic (2008), a raid leader (2008), a Warcraft blogger (2010) and a PVPer (2012)

My main has, and always will be Evlyxx, a priest and I love to heal. I started as Holy in vanilla, dabbled with the shadow side during the middle part of Burning Crusade, before returning to Holy but I have been mostly Discipline since mid-Wrath.
