Evlyxx's Boomkin Weak Auras Import Strings

Been a lot busy again lately but finally got some spare time to hit the leveling trail on my druid. Gone boomkin cos I can't do kitty at all and I've leveled my pally, death knight and warrior in the respective tank specs so I thought I'd be different.

Been having a whale of a time too but mastering that pesky rotation as boomkin is no easy feat. Therefore I had to put together a good boomkin Weak Aura set that enabled me to watch my dots and cast either Wrath or Sunfire while in the correct Eclipse.

As I think they're rather good, I thought I'd share them with the world! I have also ventured into the world of YouTube so you can actually see the Weak Auras in action (and to see how bad I am at being a boomkin, but that is a story for another day!

When importing make sure you manually copy and paste from the lower box on PasteBin, as whenever I try to import using their clipboard feature my strings get rejected despite it copying exactly the same text. Makes no sense but the manual method does work. For your convenience, I have posted these on Pastebin as well as this page but the copy paste from here is hit and miss and I would strongly recommend you use PasteBin if you get an import error.

TSM 2.0 Group Import Strings: Materials

Been threatening to share my Trade Skill Master 2.0 import strings for a while so I finally got of my rear end and decided to make it a reality. As I have many strings, I have decided to split them into the sub sections, This post will give you the imports for what I call Materials, and I'll deal with them purely in alphabetical order of my names.

The first is "Archaeology", this includes all of the keystones such as the Dwarf Rune Stone:
52843,63127,63128,64392,64394,64395,64396,64397,79868,79869,95373
Next up is "Cloth" this includes bolts of cloth as well as the base item such as Runecloth and Bolt of Runecloth:
14047,14256,21840,21877,24271,2589,2592,33470,41510,41511,4306,4338,4339,53010,53643,72988,82441
My "CraftingSpecials" contains items that are used in craft but don't fall into any other category, (e.g. Shadow Silk)

That finishes the first batch of my import strings. I don't claim these lists to be perfect and they don't all include every item possible but if they are not, they are missing very few items. If you find an incorrectly placed or missing item, please feel free to comment below.

Sunday Screenshot #19

Sometimes real life can be cruel and recently it seems to have conspired to throw everything at me which has resulted in less than optimal time in WoW and almost crippled my blogging for the past 2 weeks. Then this week TSM2 got launched and that has devoured a huge amount of time learning that and then setting it up 3 times (long boring story I won't tell yet).

The good news there though i that the 3rd incarnation of my set up is far superior the the first 2 and worlds ahead of the TSM1 set up. Rather than risk having to spend a 4th period of 3 hours setting up TSM, I decided to back up all my groups and fortunately that will give me a lot of content to provide through the blog so the exercise wasn't a complete waste.

A quick plug for Sapu and his team over at TradeSkillMaster.com and the Consortium Forums who deserve a huge thank you from everyone that uses or has used TSM. If you're not a user and are heavily into gold making using your professions then you really should give it a look. I won't lie, the learning curve is steep but there are many fantastic guides out there in the community. Below is a few I have used this week after discovering them on the Consortium forum's "Read First" post:

The Wrong Clothes!

WoWScrnShot_062513_012847
Ever been a dumb ass and gone into battle with the comedy item equipped? Well this week I did and it isn't my first time. So I finally bit the bullet and set myself up a Weak Aura to ensure I'm not repeating the incident again.

All this does it put a great big icon in the middle of my screen to remind me I'm not in my raiding gear if I have a fishing rod, teleport cloak/ring, comedy trinket or the aforementioned Safari Hat equipped.

When importing make sure you manually copy and paste from the lower box on pastebin, as whenever I try to import using their clipboard feature my strings get rejected despite it copying exactly the same text. Makes no sense but the manual method does work. For your convenience, I have posted these on Pastebin as well as this page

Evlyxx's Weak Auras Import Strings

_disc_weak_auras

It has taken me way too long to do this but now it is here I hope you enjoy my Weak Aura import strings for priests of all specs. My thanks go to Derevka at Tales of a Priest for getting me off the starting blocks back in September 2012 when Power Auras died and also to TouchyMcFeel for his awesome Weak Aura tutorial videos on YouTube, you really should subscribe to his channel regardless of your Weak Aura abilities.

There are four in total, one for each spec and one for all specs and for them to work effectively you will need at least 2 of them; the one for your main spec and the all specs version.My discipline set up is at the top of the post, the holy one is shown below:

_holy_weak_auras

and below is my shadow spec one showing the offensive spells which I do NOT track when in either the Discpline or Holy specs:

_shadow_weak_auras

Rather than paste all the code here I have uploaded them to pastebin.com and all you need to do is cut and paste them from there into your Weak Aura Import box.

A more detailed look at the auras are on my Weak Auras For Priests page but if you just want the auras, the four imports are:

When importing make sure you manually copy and paste from the lower box on pastebin, as whenever I try to import using their clipboard feature my strings get rejected despite it copying exactly the same text. Makes no sense but the manual method does work.

If you have any feedback on these imports or need help with Weak Auras just post a comment below or send an email to evlyxx at evlyxx dot co dot uk.

Sandboxing Your World of Warcraft Installation

No not that one!
Like many folks, I mess with addons and I raid. Sometimes that can create conflict as if I'm not ready to raid because that new alpha version of an addon has broken my lovely UI I'm screwed and as a healer and raid leader so are my guild, That simply isn't cool. So what I do is have a test environment which replicates my normal WoW but if that new addon breaks my UI, I have a safe "live" version ready to go and the idea was originally put to me via a post by Matticus, but as I recently tried to direct a friend there and neither of us could find that post, I thought I'd share the technique with you all.

Announcing: PeonQuestComplete

PeonQuestComplete is my contribution to the world of addons. It is a small addon to give audio cues on the following events:
  • you complete a quest
  • you complete an objective of a quest
Each of these events will cause a distinct sound to be played (only the 'highest ranked' of these sounds will play, of course).

I appreciate that this is nothing new, heck I got hooked on it initially with QuestHelper and more lately, Medley. With Blizzard killing off quest helper with the built in quest tracking on the map quest addons are really unecessary and sadly 5.0.4 broke Medley, which I only used a single feature off from a list of a dozen or so. So a piece of bloatware to replace it seemed excessive. Other addons were a bit too intrusive and the closest thing I found to what I wanted was Yoco's QuestSounds but that too was too much spam. So I decided to strip down Yoco's QuestSounds and make it what I wanted.

Therefore, PeonQuestComplete is heavily based on Yoco's QuestSounds and the without that addon I would not have been able to complete my project. PeonQuestComplete does not have the objective completion (when you kill 1 of the 12 boars you need for the quest) feature as I find it annoying to be spammed audibly and in the chat window for each minor event when all I wanted was a simple audible alert that says "ready to work" when I have completed the each major objective and "job done" when the quest has been completed.
No chat spam when you kill a mob in one of the objectives
This is what PeonQuestComplete is, it is intentionally simple and I'm not intending to add any additional features. Potential changes would be extra soundsets, if I discover any that may be appropriate. Because of the simplicity of the addon there will be no graphical configuration.
Upon quest or objective completion a message in your chat window  (not a chat channel)
The sounds are sounds that are embedded in the game, they are not external sound files and therefore place no additional demand on your game experience.

While there is no localization support, the addon should work in other languages as well, but the feedback messages will be printed in English and the commands are in English.

There are two known problems:

  1. The sounds may not play the first time they should play (if they aren't cached yet).
  2. For some quests the wrong 'rank' of sound may play (e.g. the objective complete sound when the quest complete sound should play).
These are minor annoyances caused by the way WoW works rather than the addon failing and therefore cannot be fixed
The configuration "menu"
As can be seen from the above image, there are very few configuration commands available via the "/pqc" command ("/peonquestcomplete" is an alias for "/pqc").

There are three "sound sets" built in that you can choose between and you can switch between these via:

  • /pqc set peon
  • /pqc set peasant
  • /pqc set mix
The 'peon' set is the default sound set because that is the one I like best. You can test the sounds that will play by running the "/pqc test" command:

To play the "queste complete" sound:
  • /pqc test objective
  • /pqc test 1
To play the "objective complete" sound:
  • /pqc test objective
  • /pqc test 2
The addon is available through WoWInterface and Curse, the download links are below:

Download from WoWInterface.com

If you like the addon, tell your friends and get them to download it, if you find bugs, please contact me.

AddOn Idea: Auction House iLevel Column

Just a  quick idea for any addon writers out there, which I give to you free. I claim no intellectual ownership and want no public thanks.

I would like a sortable column on the Auction House that displays the iLevel of armour and weapons as is done within the Auctioneer add-on shown above. The thing is I don't want to use an add-on the size of Auctioneer simply for a column on the AH, when IMHO it should be a standard feature of the AH.

A while back I did look through the code to see if I could spot it but I failed horribly and am not gifted enough with lua to even hope to do this myself.

10 Tips to Prepare for Pandacraft

PandaPrep

In only a few short weeks, we will begin the charge to Pandaria and to level 90, but before September 25 arrives, we even begin preparations for the big day.

We need to consider many things for our characters and our computing hardware. Many of these tasks are quick and simple housekeeping type of things that if we weren't so busy we would keep on top of all the time but always find some excuse to put them off. But now there is precious little time remaining, we can procrastinate no more, the time for action is upon us!

Rares Farming For Transmog

Farming for transmog gear is a thankless task. There are a number of ways you can do this and none are efficient in terms of gold per hour, but there is a way you can do this relatively quickly especially if you have access to flight which is killing rares as almost all rares drop green items (or if you're lucky blue/purple gear).

But flying high above the crowds of mobs hoping to spot a rare spawn isn't easy, heck it is damned near impossible. Thankfully there is a tool that is perfect for the job, good old NPC Scan

Priestly Power Auras Revisited

A bit of a cheat this post as I'm simply reproducing one of my static pages I have just updated, but I think this topic actually deserves special attention.

Power Auras Classic is one of my favourite add ons as it replaces many addons that I used in the past as it allows me to create visual and ausio alerts that I design and position for procs like "clear casting", trinket procs, buffs/debuffs, cooldowns and even equipped items (I have been known to go into battle with my Chef's Hat equipped!

Add On: GTFO

A real quick post to plug my current best friend type addon, GTFO.

Put in the authors own words, GTFO is:
GTFO provides an audible alert when you're standing in something you're not supposed to be standing in. In some cases, you'll be warned before you start taking damage. This mod improves your situational awareness and is recommended for dungeon divers and raiders of all skill levels as even the most seasoned veteran sometimes needs a reminder to GTFO.
Its something that allows you to have your tunnel vision, healing blinkers or whatever is distracting your attention from the fire beneath your feet, a simple "beep" type noise alerts you to potential danger. Its really simple works straight out of the box and really I don't know why anyone should be without it.

If you're certain that you avoid 100% of such damage, I challenge you to download it use it for a month and prove to yourself how awesome you are. If you've managed to not trigger this addon for a month please leave a comment below, uninstall the addon and apply to join Saturday Knight Fever on the Shadowsong EU realm.

wowTrader - a fantastic tool for making gold

Just a real quick post to introduce you all to a fantastic tool, wowTrader, its not a nasty gold seller site so no need to panic, I haven't gone to the darkside.
In wowTraders own words "it is primarily a site built around the ability to view auction house prices over time for your server so you know what items are actually worth. Each item has an individual page with graphs showing recent history, long term trending, availability and historic price distribution."

If you're on the US realms  wowTrader isn't available and you'll need to continue/start using the Undermine Journal, which has been online for quite sometime now  but never progressed to pick up the EU data.

Patch 4.0.6 is here!

Just a real quick link to the official patch notes as hosted by MMO-Champion.

Their post specifies only US realms but no mention is made of us EU folks having to wait an extra week.

Key points:
  • Your class has changed, read your notes;
  • Some glyphs have changed, check yours;
  • A few UI changes have happened, update your addons;
  • Heroics have been tweaked (that is many nerfs and a few buffs);
  • Flasks need less mats;
  • Justice Points can be traded for ore/leather/herbs;
  • "Many bugs, handled them" I love that line;

Addon: Power Auras

Power Auras was created to provide visual warnings when you gain very shorts buffs or debuffs, it allows you to draw in the centre of the screen around your character and is very customizable with many built in visual effects. Since its launch it has evolved and can now track
  • Buffs/Debuffs (whatever their name)
  • Debuff Types (like Magic, Curse, Poison, Disease, Silence, Stun, Crowd Control etc)
  • Combo points
  • Harmful area spells
  • Weapon enchants
  • Health
  • Mana
  • Rage, Runic Power or Energy thresholds
  • Action cool-downs
  • Aggro, PvP status
  • Stance, Shape-shift form or Aura
TL; DR - its a personalised buff/debuff centre that can also help you track cooldowns to keep you alive amd maximise your DPS/TPS/HPS.

You can download it from:
Power Auras @ Curse.com
Power Auras @ WoWInterface.com

The Backstory: After The Dragon....

If you have been reading my blog for a while or been dedicated enough to go back in time you may remember or stumble across a post I made back in May 2010 about how I got started in raiding and I never finished the story so over the next few weeks I will make one of my posts one of my backstory.

After killing Onyxia (level 60) I was most definitely hooked but I knew my gear was not upto the challenge, with the exception of my recent haul (Ancient Cornerstone Grimoire & Halo of Transcendence), so I spent the next few days running ScholomanceStraholme, Blackrock Spire (Upper and Lower) hoping for any upgrades to my shabby green gear and hopefully some of the Vestments of the Devout. I did 2 instances a night and I remember bugging groups to do the Father Flame event in the hope that the Devout Mantle would drop, a few groups sighed and said no a few brave one relented reluctantly but them shoulders never dropped. I did get a few upgrades though so all was not wasted.

Preparing for Deathwing

In only a few short weeks, we will begin the charge to kill Deathwing, but before we even think about the ultimate goal of the next expansions we need to consider what steps we can take now to help us.

The tasks can be broken down into a few small chunks under 2 wider categories, namely things we can do before December 7th and things that can be done after December 7th. I'm going to call these Before and After just to keep it short and sweet.

Today I am going to look at the Before tasks and the After will be covered in a topic early in December.

Flood and Blunder

Image courtesy of UK Jigsaw Puzzle Club
This post has been specifically written for inclusion in the November Wow Gold Blogging Carnival over at Just My Two Copper, while not specifically a gold making blog I do from time to time cover my gold making activities in posts.

As the end of Wrath nears I have focused more in-game time on learning the finer details of the art of gold making and along the way have found many resources, made some nice profits and had a lot of fun. It has generally been easy (if a little time consuming - glyph making and bag making is painfully dull and slow yay for afk crafting though) however, it hasn't been without mistakes.

Grid for Nothing and Your Clique is Free

Patches are time for change in Warcraft be the tiny ones or behemoths like 4.0.1 which we have just received. Blizzard document the major changes that they make but behind the scenes they also make tweeks and major overhauls that go completely undocumented outside Blizz HQ.

4.0.1: Initial thoughts

Well the first few hours of WoW 4x is done. The game is looking rather stable and the priest class looking rather healthy from my very limited playtime in game so far. Not that I didn't spend much time in game, just not much time playing due to complete addon meltdown, now I am used to addons breaking after game patches but this was simply chaos and I am sure I was not alone. Many of the graphics updates seen in beta have appeared early, the floor textures in Stormwind and the new water textures, along with some interesting display bugs where the reflections in the water are showing as cloned textures rather than reflections, doh! Also noteworthy is the fact that while this has happened my framerate has got better not worse so hats off to Blizzard for making the graphics engine work harder, look prettier and be easier on the hardware.

About the Author

By day I'm an IT Server analyst for a major telecoms compnay in the UK and I've been playing World of Warcraft since November 2005 when a pair of colleagues bullied me into playing! I have evolved into a raider (summer 2006), an auction house wheeler dealer (2007), a guild officer (2007), an altoholic (2008), a raid leader (2008), a Warcraft blogger (2010) and a PVPer (2012)

My main has, and always will be Evlyxx, a priest and I love to heal. I started as Holy in vanilla, dabbled with the shadow side during the middle part of Burning Crusade, before returning to Holy but I have been mostly Discipline since mid-Wrath.
