The Blog Azeroth shared topic for July 30 - August 5 was suggested by Effraeti from Effraeti's RP:
Some of us have farming professions. Some of us have crafting professions. Some of us have a little bit of everything! Professions are leveled because they fit our style of play, help us in raiding, allow us to outfit our alts, and make us money.
What professions do you have on your main? Do his/her professions fit their personality? Why did you choose them? If you chose professions based on your character and not on gaming needs, would that change some of their professions they use?
When Evlyxx was created I was advised by my friends who played the game that I should take a crafting and a gathering profession and as I also had access to the Official Strategy guide before I was suckered in and had read up a bit and decided to take alchemy and herbalism as they were complimentary professions and alchemy seemed to be the type of profession that a healer would partake in. While I'm neither a role player or on a role playing server it seemed appropriate.
While I was levelling (as shadow) this wasn't particularly difficult but once I hit maximum level and was raiding as a Holy priest (the only option for raiding and there was no dual specs) meant I was a sitting duck for any mobs that wanted to take pot shots at me while I went to gather the herb. This meant that I was not very efficient at the job and therefore I decided to switch herbalism for enchanting and leave the herb gathering to Wilkini, my other priest.
The reason I switched to enchanting was purely financial, getting enchants wasn't cheap as folks wanted tipping, heck some even charged a minimum price of 10g and while that's small fry today it wasn't back then.
I have always been an avid fisher and once I discovered the benefits of buff food, Nightfin Soup, to be exact I got hooked on cooking and then those two secondary professions became a bit of an obsession I have all but 1 of the cooking recipes and the one I miss is Thistle Tea which was made a rogue only recipe in March 2005 which for my sanity was 6 months before I started playing.
If I could choose the professions for Evlyxx again from an RP perspective I would revert back to alchemy and herbalism, although there may be a moral dilemma of a priest dishing our drugs as a way of enhancing performance or curing ills. From a raiding and gold making view I would stick with enchanting and add jewelcrafting. But overall I'm happy with my lot and am too close to getting all the recipes to even consider a swap.
The other good news is that on Shadowsong EU (my primary server) I have each profession maxed out at least once. The big dilema I have is when Pandacraft comes which do I level up first on the alts?
